Most of us are not aware that 60% to 70% of what we throw away can be turned into a rich earthy garden resource at home, another 20% – 25% can be recycled, repurposed if we handle it well and only 5% to 10% needs to go to the municipal system.
To increase awareness on crisis of urban waste and to transition to sustainable solutions, INORA along with Rotary and ProEarth Ecosystems has launched a training session which will take place every week at a different location in Pune.
The 1 hour training session will include information on the crisis of solid waste faced globally and by every city including Pune. It will focus on immediate practical steps that all citizens could take to address the problem in a highly decentralised way. The training will include a detailed, practically oriented session on waste segregation, which will be based on the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change of the Central Government. The second part of the session will cover practical and cost effective methods every family could apply in their daily lives to begin composting at home. The session will also include experience sharing and common tips on how to apply the concepts of Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. With this INORA hopes to bring a change of mindset towards waste from a Not-In-My-Back-Yard (NIMBY) approach to a Yes-In-My-Back-Yard (YIMBY) attitude.
A demonstration of a composter planter and various tools and materials that go into composting will also be made available.
The training sessions will be scheduled on a first come first served basis. We invite training requests from resident welfare associations, housing complexes, groups of aware citizens or any group of people who are looking to begin a transition towards a more conscious neighbourhood, city and country. To sign up for us to visit you for a training on Saturday between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm, please fill in the form below and we’ll get back to you.
